LA SCALA LOCATION
This project is in the Bovisa district of Milan, site of great cultural ferment (the universities, galleries, the detached branch of the Triennial), of renewal and experimentation. During the Seventies the Bovisa was one of the most important industrial centres for Milan and its vocation as “workplace” has remained unchanged and even reinforced over the years.
Lascalalocation of the Lucchese Studio, is formed of a group of designers and planners who have decided to upgrade an old industrial complex and recreate it as their general headquarters.
The building has three storeys and the interiors are very flexible depending on the various events that are organised: study-office, exhibition gallery, meetings, conferences and video-projections.
The renovation project wanted to keep the original character of the industrial building unchanged, giving a new interpretation to the interiors with innovative materials and solutions.
The redesigned large stairway follows the three storeys and is an example of the project philosophy: the geometry of the stairway is the same, but it has become a ”vertical exhibition gallery”, with the expert use of coloured lights, glass and steel structures, new display cabinets and playing with overturning traditional points of view opening new perspectives and reflections.
For example: the magic of the prototypes of glass vases floating in space, perceiving the works of art from beneath.
The work on the window and doorframes follows the same meticulous approach: the industrial nature of the original iron-windows has been recalled in the steel profile frames, but with improved characteristics in terms of seal and insulation, choosing steel frames but with a seal groove all around the edge. Visually they look like a traditional frame, narrow and discreet with all the space given over to the window but with a much higher performance level.
