BETWEEN THE LINES
The project for the roof over the large central courtyard in this baroque building, built in 1735, is the final part of the general project that the Daniel Libeskind Studio implemented in the amazing and moving extension work to the Jewish Museum in Berlin.
The new bright central courtyard roof looks like one of the traditional curtains that are used for the Jewish feast of Sukkah, a place of meeting and festivity, to remember the life of the people of Israel in the desert during their journey to the Promised Land.
The diaphanous steel and glass structure looks like the flowing drapes of a curtain moved by the wind: the façade seems to ripple like a piece of material giving transparency towards the park behind.
